I am always aware of how many things which I taught in my long past have since been proved wrong. The most important attitude is therefore to be constantly aware that what you’re doing and teaching now you will have to modify and correct in view of new facts. Thus, you must always keep an open mind for any new knowledge, even if it shows what you believed & taught before was wrong.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do You Mean By Teaching Independence?

We’re not rep-counters that merely shout exercise commands. Making an investment in fitness is a big financial decision. But your investment isn’t for the trainer to stand there & dictate reps for you. Your investment is made towards your education: Education in competency of your body in making better long-term decisions. Competency that can transfer to other aspects of life, relationship, & in educating those around you. At what price do we place confidence? At what price do we place being pain free? At what price do we put the knowledge to know exactly what to do and how to do it on your own — independent from a trainer standing next to you? We won’t babysit you or count reps for you. We won’t spoon-feed you. We will teach you how to critically think in order to apply it towards your own body. We teach a man to fish for long-term, independent success. Please read The Manifesto statement released here.

Do You Train Both Men & Women?

Yes we train both men and women. However, it should be noted Arin Training specializes in men’s fitness, but welcomes all individuals. While there are pros and cons to gender specialization in fitness, there is a certain level of comfort, expertise, and necessary program adjustments that make such specialization ideal. This is similar to how a medical doctor would specialize in children (pediatrics) or a fitness club catering to women (e.g. Total Woman). Although we specialize in men, we welcome all individuals and may sometimes refer clients to other fitness professionals within the same facility based on goals, requests, or scheduling conflicts.

By networking with a close team of experienced professionals — all individuals are guaranteed to be matched with a personal trainer that fits their needs and comfort level. Read more about differences in training men versus women here.

How Do I Sign Up, Pay, & Begin?

To determine if making an investment with Arin Training is right for you, we’ve set up an easy online system to contact us and set up an appointment for a free complimentary consultation and workout (approximately 20 min consult + 20 min workout). Just click on the Contact header to send us a message or call 888-677-0499 to leave a brief message. We will email you with several appointment times to click online. The complimentary session/consult serves as an informal meet to check out the facility, interview your trainer, and determine if the both candidates are right for working with one another.

Once you’re ready to sign up, all applicable forms will emailed to you and a weekly training schedule will be agreed upon mutually. Payment for all personal training will be due by start of first session and training for monthly semi-private will be due on first week of each month. We accept all forms of payment and credit cards both in-person or online. For online payments, we will email you a link to click and pay.

How Many Workouts Per Week?

You decide the number of sessions you wish to invest in. You won’t retain strength, speed, or even flexibility or mobility without continued training — thus, fitness isn’t a lifestyle it’s a sacrifice. To incite positive changes in your body for base strength, flexibility, or maintenance we recommend lifting weights about twice per week. To incite more dramatic body-transformation or if you’re just a beginner to weight-training, we recommend lifting weights about 3-4 times per week as beginners need more repetition/exposure and those requiring stubborn fat-loss require more training. This is, however, ultimately dependent on how well you recover, how much stress you’re on, how well you sleep, and how much you want to invest in fitness with your current budget. You get what you pay for. You may choose to hire a trainer for all your workouts or split them up between trainer workouts & solo workouts (e.g. 2 with trainer, 1 alone).

Are Workouts 60-Minutes?

No. There is nothing magical about 60-minutes. Exercise duration varies individually. Generally, they vary between 40 to 65 minutes. Personal training plans (Essential, Premier, Master) are roughly 50-65 minutes and monthly plans are roughly 40-45 minutes. Most strength and/or flexibility training can be performed in about 45-minutes if you carefully tailor rest periods & limit small talk. For example, a meticulously crafted 45-minute workout that reaches your lactic acid threshold is far more effective at burning fat than a moderate two-hour workout with long rest periods & constantly checking your Facebook feed or small talking.

We don’t have a lot of time to waste in the training room: Come in, finish your work, and get on with your life. There are obvious exceptions such as particular phases of exercise requiring longer rest intervals, endurance athletes, or bodybuilders — but the vast majority of us can suffice with shorter workouts most days of the week. Ultimately, workout duration is dependent on a myriad of variables including, but not limited to recovery capability, flexibility needs, age, stress, personal goals, time constraints, adaptability to exercise, & fitness experience. These variables differ from one to another therefore there is no clear-cut one-size-fits all answer!

What About Stretching?

This is the most important part! Most injuries are caused by the way we train and the way we move (or lack thereof) over a long period of time. If you think your slight back pain is insignificant today, how do you think it will be 5 years from now if not addressed properly? Chances are it will be ten times worse. Remember: Are you moving poorly because you’re in pain? Or are you in pain because you’re moving poorly?

Implementing an effective stretching habit can & will address imbalances caused by improper training and movement. If you’re flexible with an ongoing routine that currently works for you — keep it up! But if you’re stiff, you must earn the privilege to weight-train by demonstrating proper joint mechanics and the willingness to stretch. Your joints are constructed to move relative to one another in specific ways & if you load them incorrectly (through negligent training or posture) you’re screwing with how your body was intended to function let alone perform in a weight room. Stretching will be a vital part of your holistic program & shall serve as the foundation for everything else!
